12 Things You Actually Need

Mattress topper: Dorm mattresses have survived things we don't want to discuss—a vital piece in your dorm survival guide. Two sets of sheets: Because laundry day and sheet-changing day rarely cooperate, a little prep is key in your college life tips. Good pillows: Your bed will also transform into your sofa, study area, and occasional dining room, making comfort a necessity. Laundry basket or bag: Preferably one you can actually carry, simplifying your student budgeting advice. Shower caddy + shower shoes: Trust us on the shoes, they're essential for communal living. Power strip with surge protection: There are never enough outlets, so check your dorm's rules first to avoid surprises. Long phone-charging cable: The outlet will inevitably be nowhere near your bed, so plan accordingly. Under-bed storage: In a tiny room, empty space is real estate, maximizing your dorm life efficiency. Desk lamp: Your roommate won't appreciate the main light at 1 a.m., so a good lamp is essential. Reusable water bottle: You'll carry it everywhere, staying hydrated during college life. Basic medicine/first-aid kit: Bandages, thermometer, and everyday essentials—call home before the emergency, not during it. A small fan: Some dorm rooms seem to have two temperatures: sauna and volcano, making a fan a must-have for comfort.

Bright, cozy bedroom with packed boxes and a study desk.

My Blog

JUST FRIENDS… ARE WE? L.A. & J have a new song. Unfortunately, it hasn't answered the question. There are friendships, there are relationships, and then there is that strange territory that many navigate during their college life—where you text each other every day, know each other's coffee order, steal each other's fries, go everywhere together, and insist to absolutely everybody that you're just friends. Welcome to L.A. and J. "We're not dating," says L.A. "Nope," says J. Their friends have a different opinion. If only there were some college life tips or a dorm survival guide to help them figure this out. Perhaps a little student budgeting advice could keep their minds off the confusion of their relationship dynamics.
